Here's how to fight the "flu"...

Use this guide to discover the most common causes of the most common symptoms for your illnesses...

Sinusitus

Description:  An inflammation of the sinuses due to viral, bacterial, or fungal infection or allergic reactions. Sinuses are empty spaces within the facial bones. Each sinus is connected to the nose and surrounds the nose (termed “paranasal”).  Germs gain entrance to the sinuses, usually during a cold or other vital infection, causing congestion and further blockage. This accumulation of fluid in the sinuses promotes growth of bacteria.
Incidence:  Common (thirty-seven million Americans per year)

Prevalence:
Makes equally with females

Signs and symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Pain (forehead, upper jaw and teeth, between eyes, nose, ears, neck)
  • Fever
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Nasal congestion
  • Runny nose
Risk factors:
  • Common cold
  • Environmental exposure to allergens or pollutants
  • Asthma
  • Small growth in the nose
Usual treatment:
  • Medication
Usual course: Sinusitis can be cleared in a few days with appropriate treatment. Recurrent episodes may be common and can lead to a chronic condition; efforts to control allergic response are often needed.
Spiritual considerations: Instill hope for chronic cases of sinusitis

Suggested scriptures:
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
