Dr. James Kamau, (ABD)

Dr. James Kamau was the Program Coordinator for Global health training and development in the Department of Global Health. He was also a Health Associate within the Center for Global Health at George Washington University. Prior to joining George Washington University in 1998, he served for almost ten years as an Administrative Director and Project Administrator at Howard University-College of Medicine, Department of Community Health and Family Practice, Department of Quality Assurance and Utilization review and finally Department of Pediatric and Child Health, in Washington, DC. Mr. Kamau is originally from Kenya.

Prior to joining Howard University College of Medicine, Mr. Kamau worked at Fairfax Hospital System, and where he completed his Administrative Residency in 1988.

Mr. Kamau has been involved with several community based health projects within the African American and Hispanic population in
Washington, DC. The issues of health access, health barriers, health finance, health management, health education, health prevention, health training and cultural diversity issues are of the areas of interests that Mr. Kamau continues to pursue. He has given lectures on Global Health to both undergraduate and graduate students at George Washington Department of Global Health. He is currently co-teaching with Professor James Banta a course titled "Urban Challenges in Africa: The role of Public Health in these settings."

Mr. Kamau is preparing for his dissertation defense. He was recently appointed in the Department as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. His dissertation topic is "The impact of VCTs in
Kenya in reducing and management of HIV/AIDS". Mr. Kamau received his Bachelors (Double major-Sociology and Communication) Degrees in 1982, Masters in Health System Administration in 1986 and PhD in Health Care Management expected summer 2008.
